Funky Nixons: Food Not Bombs AnniversaryPhotos by Gene Wiens and Steve Nadel/COMAThe Funky Nixons have performed at numerous Food Not Bombs events, from luncheon sing-alongs in People's Park to the annual anniversary concerts in San Francisco. Here, the band performs against the dramatic backdrop of San Francisco's faux-classical City Hall. During the 1990s, Food Not Bombs and the City government fought constantly over the right to serve free meals in civic center plaza. After 800 arrests and countless confiscated meals, the City gave way. Another year, when police pulled the plug on a mid-90's anniversary show in Golden Gate Park, the Funky Nixons took the stage with a hand-held bullhorn and did a five-song set (click here).
